About the Case:

On December 2, 1983, the victim, Mary CREWS, left her mother's residence in Martinsville, VA, noting that she was going to the Martinsville Hardees restaurant. CREWS reportedly met with an associate between 2300 and 0000 in Martinsville and then departed alone in her own vehicle. She was observed traveling eastbound on Route 58 towards South Boston, VA and then onto North Main Street in Danville, VA. On December 04, 1983, at approximately 2145 hours, deputies in the Sutherlin area of Halifax County discovered what appeared to be an abandoned vehicle on a secluded pull off on Route 656, 2.5 miles north of Route 58. The Virginia State Police was notified and responded to the scene. Upon further inspection, authorities located CREWS deceased inside her vehicle, the victim of an obvious gunshot. A purse and other belongings known to be property of CREWS were later discovered on December 06, 1983, approximately 200 feet west of State Route 656. Mary Crews' vehicle is described as a blue 1972 Oldsmobile 4-Door Sedan with a Virginia License Plate of ZCU-979.
