Case Details
Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office – Case: 2012-006908 – Unidentified Female
About the Case:
On August 26, 1976, the body of a black female was located beneath an abandoned school bus on a property in Midland, VA. It is believed the female was 31-37 years old and between 5'6" - 5'11". The body was not recognizable, as decomposition had begun. No further identifiers are available. She was found wearing an off-white, loose fitting dress with a belt tied around the waist. She was also wearing a ring on her left ring finger that had a dark oval stone. The unidentified remains were exhumed in a small ceremony at Warrenton Cemetery on Friday, March 29, 2024. Our hope is to bring closure and healing for her family and friends left behind two generations ago. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner immediately took custody for more updated forensic testing. The anticipated new information will become the basis for a new and full investigation by the Sheriff’s Office to identify the woman who died a nearly forgotten death and rests in our county.
